About the Position

Position Description

The Worship Minister provides spiritual, creative, and organizational leadership for the worship ministry of Glendale Christian Church. This person will plan and lead worship services that help the congregation glorify God and respond to His Word through a thoughtful blend of modern worship music, traditional hymns, Scripture, prayer, and special music. The Worship Minister will work closely with the Senior Minister, existing worship team members, technical volunteers, and other ministry leaders to create unified and meaningful worship experiences. This position is also responsible for recruiting, developing, training, and caring for volunteers who serve throughout the worship and production ministries.

Accountability

  • Reports directly to the Senior Minister.
  • Works collaboratively with church staff, elders, ministry leaders, worship team members, and technical volunteers.
  • Supports the doctrine, mission, values, and ministry direction of Glendale Christian Church.

Employment Status

  • Full-time ministry position.
  • Expected schedule includes Sunday worship services, rehearsals, staff meetings, ministry planning, special services, and other church events as needed.
  • Specific work schedule, compensation, and benefits will be established by the church.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Worship Planning and Leadership
    • Plan, organize, and lead weekly worship services in cooperation with the Senior Minister.
    • Select music that supports the sermon theme, the church calendar, and the overall purpose of each service.
    • Create worship experiences that use a balanced blend of modern worship songs and traditional hymns.
    • Introduce both new and familiar music in ways that encourage strong congregational participation.
    • Incorporate special music, solos, ensembles, instrumental selections, choirs, readings, videos, and other appropriate creative elements into worship services.
    • Work with, support, and help develop the children’s choir, coordinating its participation in worship services and special programs as appropriate.
    • Prepare and lead worship for holidays, funerals, weddings, revivals, and other special services as requested.
    • Ensure that worship services are spiritually focused, biblically faithful, well prepared, and consistent with the values of Glendale Christian Church.
  • Worship Team Leadership •
    • Lead and work effectively with the church’s existing worship team members.
    • Schedule worship leaders, vocalists, musicians, and other participants for weekly and special services.
    • Plan and lead regular rehearsals that are organized, encouraging, and efficient.
    • Provide music, arrangements, recordings, chord charts, and other resources needed for preparation.
    • Cultivate a healthy team culture marked by spiritual growth, excellence, humility, cooperation, reliability, and mutual respect.
    • Provide pastoral care, encouragement, and spiritual leadership to members of the worship and production teams.
    • Address team concerns and conflicts with grace, wisdom, and appropriate communication.
  • Volunteer Development
    • Recruit and welcome new musicians, vocalists, worship leaders, sound technicians, presentation operators, livestream volunteers, and other ministry participants.
    • Identify the gifts and potential of volunteers and help them find meaningful places of service.
    • Train and mentor volunteers so that the worship ministry is not dependent on one individual.
    • Develop team leaders who can lead rehearsals, services, or technical areas when needed.
    • Create clear schedules, expectations, procedures, and communication systems for volunteers.
    • Maintain a dependable rotation that promotes ministry excellence while respecting volunteers’ time and availability.
  • Presentation, Audio, and Livestream Ministry
    • Possess strong working knowledge of ProPresenter and use it to create and manage service presentations.
    • Prepare accurate song lyrics, Scripture slides, sermon content, announcements, videos, and other media for worship services.
    • Maintain organized ProPresenter files, playlists, media, and service orders.
    • Operate the church’s sound system and understand the basic principles of live audio, including microphones, monitors, mixing, and troubleshooting.
    • Recruit, train, schedule, and support sound technicians.
    • Establish consistent audio procedures and help technical volunteers improve their knowledge and skills.
    • Assist with basic livestream production and troubleshooting; additional knowledge of livestream systems, cameras, video switching, and online broadcasting is helpful.
    • Work with church leadership to evaluate, maintain, and recommend improvements to worship, audio, presentation, and livestream equipment.
  • Ministry Collaboration and Administration
    • Meet regularly with the Senior Minister to coordinate sermon themes, service direction, special elements, and ministry priorities.
    • Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and church-wide ministry events.
    • Communicate service plans and volunteer schedules clearly and in a timely manner.
    • Maintain appropriate records, music licenses, subscriptions, equipment information, and worship ministry resources.
    • Develop and manage the worship ministry budget in cooperation with the Senior Minister and church leadership.
    • Help create a worship ministry calendar that includes weekly services, rehearsals, holidays, and special events.
    • Perform other ministry-related duties as assigned by the Senior Minister.

Qualifications

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ whose character and lifestyle reflect biblical standards for Christian leadership.
  • Agreement with and willingness to support the doctrine, mission, and ministry philosophy of Glendale Christian Church.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead congregational worship vocally and, preferably, instrumentally.
  • Ability to plan worship using both modern worship music and traditional hymns.
  • Strong working knowledge of ProPresenter is essential.
  • Ability to operate a sound system and train volunteer sound technicians is essential.
  • Basic knowledge of livestream production is preferred.
  • Ability to lead, develop, encourage, and organize volunteers of different ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to receive direction, work collaboratively, and respond to feedback with humility and maturity.
  • Ministry, worship leadership, music, or related education is preferred; meaningful experience may be considered in place of formal education.
  • Previous experience leading worship in a local church is strongly preferred.

  • ProPresenter, audio, and livestream ministries operate with preparation, consistency, and increasing reliability.
  • Communication and collaboration with the Senior Minister and church staff are strong.
  • New volunteers are regularly identified, trained, and given opportunities to serve.
